Introduction
My name is Gurvinder Glenholme married to Anthony Glenholme. I am a full time working mum of two, 4 year old Rupert and 1 year old Savannah and we live in Wiltshire, UK.
I am in the process of finalising my first children’s book which I have written and illustrated with my four year old son Rupert.
I am a first time author so writing this book and advertising it is completely new to me! I remember writing books when I was a child so its been a great way to reconnect to my childhood whilst helping Rupert express his feelings having gone through a surreal time.
Why have we written this book?
I have seen my son go through a range a emotions and anxiety through the pandemic and I worry that at times we get so consumed in just keeping up with the day to day, young childrens mental health can be often overlooked.
Through writing this book with Rupert it allowed him to express his emotions about how he felt about different situations through the pandemic and at the same time gave him hope that better days are on the way.
We hope by sharing his story with other children in his age group it might help them process their thoughts and feelings and give them a sense of hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Supporting the Children’s Charity Barnardo’s
Through writing and publishing this book I also wanted to support children affected by the pandemic further. I have therefore partnered with Barnados to offer support with £1 per book sold supporting the good work they are doing.
Barnardo’s recent Mental Health and Covid 19, “In our own words” report was fascinating and highlighted that 69% of their frontline practitioners are supporting someone with an increase in mental health issues due to the Covid-19 crisis. They require more help. Big or small I hope the book proceeds might help in some way.
